Donovan named K5 analyst for UH football

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Hawai'i Bowl executive director Jim Donovan has been hired as the color analyst for K5's telecasts of University of Hawai'i football games.

Donovan, 47, succeeds Doug Vaioleti, who served as lead analyst for three years. Vaioleti, a former UH offensive lineman, resigned to spend more time running his construction company, Real Builders.

Donovan is a former UH football player, graduate-assistant coach and associate athletic director.

"I think he's a marvelous fit," said Jim Leahey, K5's play-by-play announcer. "He's played the game. He's helped run the UH athletic program for years. He knows the NCAA rules. He knows the TV rules. And he runs a bowl game, for goodness sake. You talk about a qualified person. He might be over-qualified for this job."

K5 is arranging for Donovan to join the broadcast crew for UH's Sept. 23 road game against Boise State.
