Six O'ahu Super Senior teams advance to nationals

Six tennis teams from O'ahu advanced to national competition by winning the Super Senior Section Championship at Central O'ahu Regional Park last week.
The national championships will be held throughout the United States this month and October.
The three women's teams that qualified and their captains are: MD Wenokea Super Seniors, Honolulu, (Karen Nose); Tennis Teammates, Honolulu, (Carol Ching); and Luahine, Honolulu, Betty Clark). The men's teams are: McCully Ducks, Honolulu, (George Uedoi); Cataract & Vision Center, Honolulu, (Walter Wong); Na Kane'o Kaloapau, Mililani, (Brian Miyagi).
BOXING
PENOVAROFF TO FIGHT
Kailua, Kona resident Van Oscar Penovaroff (1-0) will fight in Green Bay, Wis., at the Mohegan Northstar Casino against Mike Krull (0-3) on Sept 30 in a four-round bout at 138 pounds.
Penovaroff, 24, had an amateur record of 89-31, and was a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Education Center in Marquette, Mich.
POLO
MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY AT MOKULE'IA
Military members and their families will be admitted free Sunday at the Hawai'i Polo Club in Mokule'ia.
The gates open at 11 a.m. for tailgating, with the matches set to begin at 2 p.m. After the matches, there will be a concert by Joe Green and the North Shore All-Stars.
