On Sept. 15, 1963, a bomb set off in a Birmingham, Ala., church killed four girls. One of the front-page stories in The Advertiser on Sept. 16 was an account by the church’s Sunday school superintendent.

1956: The Advertiser reports on construction of Honolulu's first multi-deck parking garage — in the block bounded by Nu'uanu, Pauahi, Bethel and Chaplain lane.

1961: Seventeen organizations gather signatures on a petition aimed at heading off rezoning of the Diamond Head district until a development plan can be prepared. The groups wanted to stop plans for multi-story apartment buildings.
