1929: Thousands watched a spectacular fire at St. Louis College. Damage to Henry Hall was estimated between $12,000 and $25,000.
1955: Henry J. Kaiser's Hawaiian Village hotel opens with elaborate ceremonies.
1967: Dr. Harry Huffaker, a 27-year-old dentist, becomes the second man to officially swim the choppy Moloka'i Channel. He did it in 13 hours and 35 minutes, two hours faster than Keo Nakama's swim in 1961.
