Southern swell expected to stay awhile

Advertiser Staff

The south swell that arrived over the weekend is the real deal and looks like it will hang around a while, according to the National Weather Service.

The service posted a high surf advisory for south-facing shores with expectations that the surf will hit the 5- to 8-foot level throughout the day.

Elsewhere today, look for surf of 3 to 6 feet along the west shore, 3 to 5 feet along the east shore and 2 to 4 along the northern shoreline.

The longer-term forecast calls for the the surf along the southern shore to be reinforced today by another pulse of swell out of the south, keeping surf heights around the advisory level into Wednesday of this week.

Another moderate south swell is expected later in the work week.

The small north northwest swell that arrived toward the end of last week will continue to lower through Monday, with another small swell from the north northwest due in tonight and continuing on Tuesday.

Strengthening trade winds will cause surf along east-facing shores to approach the 8-foot advisory level on Wednesday.
