As weekend nears, trade winds expected to dwindle

Enjoy the refreshing trade winds while you can because they are likely to taper off as the weekend approaches, according to the National Weather Service.

The trades are being fueled by a strong high pressure system northeast of the state, which is expected to weaken and move away from the islands over the next few days.

Clouds and showers will favor windward and mauka areas.

Here's a detailed look for the remainder of the work week:

Today, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Breezy. Highs 81 to 89. East winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 79. East winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Thursday, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Breezy. Highs 81 to 89. East winds 10 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Thursday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 78. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph and gusty. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Friday, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs 81 to 89. East winds 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Friday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 78. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
