Entertainer Don Ho, 76, is in a Honolulu hospital for some rest, and his Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber show is on hiatus till further notice, his publicist said yesterday.

Ho is undergoing evaluation now; it was not disclosed if his doctor prescribed the time off or Ho himself wanted the break. His last performance in Waikiki was Sept. 10.

Ho has been grappling with a life-threatening heart condition, called cardiomyopathy, for about a year. He went to Bangkok, Thailand, last November for VesCell adult stem cell therapy, not yet medically authorized in this country, which involved isolating stem cells from his blood and injecting them into his heart.

PASADENA, Calif. — The Force will be with the Rose Parade next year. "Star Wars" creator George Lucas yesterday was named grand marshal of the 118th annual Tournament of Roses.

DIDDY GIVES KIDS THE STRAIGHT DOPE

PHILADELPHIA — The principal at Benjamin Franklin High School wanted a speaker who would get students' attention. He succeeded. Some 750 students erupted in cheers when Sean "Diddy" Combs walked out on stage.

"This is a really important time for you all right now," said Combs, 36. "This is the time that is going to dictate your future."

His advice: work hard and stay in school. "Take responsibility for your future. No excuses!" Combs said.

The school district also plans to use Diddy's message in an anti-truancy campaign.
