Big Island police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a woman in May.

At about 11 p.m. on May 5, a woman reported that she was alone outside her Wainaku Street apartment when an unknown man approached her from behind, assaulted her and attempted to steal her jewelry, police said.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she was treated and released, police said.

The suspect is described as a local male in his mid-30s, about 5-foot-8 with a large build and a shaved or military-type haircut, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call detective Richard Sherlock at 961-2379 or the police department's non-emergency number at 961-8300.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
