UH-Hilo soccer wins first

Karen Weatherby scored three goals as the Hawai'i-Hilo women's soccer team beat Bethany, 5-2, yesterday in Scotts Valley, Calif. for the first win of the first-year program.

Kehau Leite-Ah Yo and Sophie Milam each scored a goal, and Kelly White had three assists for the Vulcans (1-3).

"It's a much better feeling when you put 90 minutes of play together," UHH coach Travis Clarke said. "We only made one mistake early and they scored ... we responded with the next four goals."

Also yesterday, Kyle Cabison scored three goals as the Hilo men's squad blanked Bethany, 6-0.

Jonathan Baba, Nick Ver Colen and Nick Schaffer also scored for the Vulcans (2-2).

Marc Fournier and Ryan Hardwick each played a half in goal to record Hilo's second shutout of the season.


VOLLEYBALL

CHAMINADE SWEEPS

Trina Kauliakamoa had 18 kills as Chaminade swept Notre Dame de Namur, 30-27, 30-28, 30-27, last night in a Pacific West Conference match at McCabe Gym.

The Silverswords are to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest. Marissa Miller had nine kills for the Argos (7-10, 0-4).

LAM ADVANCES

Honolulu's Chris Lam advanced to the doubles semifinals at the Costa Mesa Pro Futures yesterday in California.

Lam and Chris Surapol beat Germany's Sascha Kloer and Benedikt Stronk, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
