Three boys arrested in beach thefts
Advertiser Staff
Three Kailua High School boys were arrested by police Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of theft after witnesses saw them take items from Kailua Beach Park that belonged to two Japanese tourists. The witnesses were able to get a description of a car and a license plate number that led police to the address of the vehicle's registered owner, police said. From there, police were able to get identification of the youths and make the arrest, police said.
About half of the stolen items, including a camera, cash and a bag, were recovered by police and returned to the tourists, police said. If more stolen property is found, police said, it will be sent to the tourists, who returned to Japan on Thursday.
Police said the two biggest crime problems in the area are thefts from beaches and car break-ins.
