Tau Dance Theatre developed "Naupaka: A Hawaiian Love Story," a contemporary opera, based on the classic story of forbidden love between an ali'i and a low-born. The performance includes chant, falsetto, orchestral and choral compositions tied in with modern dance. It will be rendered almost entirely in Hawaiian, with English subtitles. The Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage presents Festa, a celebration of all that's Portuguese in Hawai'i. Several geneology organizations will offer specialized research into a number of ethnicities.

Cesar Millan, below left, star of the National Geographic Channel's "The Dog Whisperer" TV series, is returning for another seminar on training ... humans! His first appearance in Honolulu was in fall 2005. Scheduled topics include how to recognize the animal behavior in dogs, different levels of energy and how they influence a dog's personality, as well as Millan's leash techniques. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society. Remember: No pets allowed.

Was it so long ago that Chris Isaak was the pop/rock darling of the critics and well, to be honest, a lot of listeners of the female persuasion? His albums "Heart Shaped World" (1989) and "Wicked Game" (1990), full of songs of love and yearning, and his retro good looks put him firmly on the musical map and even into some small movie roles. He last performed in the Islands in February 1999.
