Donation scam warning issued on Big Island

Police on the Big Island of Hawaii are advising residents not to contribute money to anyone who solicits donations in the name of the Hawaii campaign of the Police Officers Safety Association, Inc.Hawaii police said today the alert was issued after Hawaii police learned that donations for that association had been requested and that donors were asked to send payments to a Honolulu address.
Big Island police investigated the questionable fund-raiser and issued the warning, saying that the Police Officers Safety Association does not have an office in Honolulu.
