McKinley upsets No. 2 Kahuku

McKinley's defense came up with big plays in crucial situations to stun No. 2 Kahuku, 14-13, Saturday night in O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red East football at Roosevelt stadium.

It was the Tigers' first win against the Red Raiders since an 11-7 win in 1975. The teams played to a 13-13 tie in 1981. McKinley (3-2 overall, 2-1 Red East) pulled even with Kahuku (3-2, 2-1) for third in the East.

"This is amazing," an elated McKinley receiver and safety Isaac Iuta said. "(Kahuku) was the best team on O'ahu."

Iuta, who had two sacks and a fumble recovery, was in on one of the three big defensive stops. With four seconds left, quarterback Richard Torres completed a pass to Pelefoni Soliai from the McKinley 49. But Iuta and two other Tigers tackled Soliai at the 15 as time ran out.
