Yoga musician to appear at UH

Internationally known musician Krishna Das, whose devotional music is heard during yoga practice across the globe, will be the featured guest in a program, "Chanting with Krishna Das," at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the UH Art Auditorium.

WORKSHOP ON MEDITATION SET

An eight-week meditation and sacred writing workshop begins Wednesday and continues through Nov. 15 at the Keolumana United Methodist Church, 1425 Keolu Drive in Kailua.

The workshop meets weekly from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and is led by Julie O. Rose, founder of Roselight Café. The fee is $12 per session ($86 for the eight-week series, which includes a booklet of the group's poetry/sacred writing).

GROUP TO OBSERVE COMMUNITY DAY

World Community Day will be celebrated by the ecumenical women's group, Church Women United of Hawaii, with a 3:30 p.m. gathering, followed by a 4 p.m. service Nov. 5 at the Central Union Church parish hall.

The theme for the day is "Signs of Healing."

MARCH FOR PEACE CELEBRATES GANDHI

The Indian-American Friendship Council is holding a march for world peace and birthday celebration of Mahatma Gandhi at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Waikiki Shell.

The march begins at 10 a.m. at the Shell and continues through Kapi'olani Park to the Gandhi statue at the Honolulu Zoo. There, a speech and birthday celebration will begin, at about 10:30 a.m., including snack and water.

'SPIRITUALITY OF HEALING' LECTURE

The Samaritan Counseling Center of Hawaii is holding a free lecture as part of a weekend conference, "The Spirituality of Healing: Seeking the Contemplative Dimensions of Healing."

The Oct. 6-8 conference is being held at the St. Stephen's Diocesan Center and led by James Finley. The lecture is at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 in the basement under the chapel, with a worship service to follow.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH CELEBRATING MOVE

The state's newest Episcopal church, St. Nicholas, is celebrating its move to a new location to the Island Pacific Academy, 909 Haumea St. in Kapolei, with a service at 9:30 a.m tomorrow followed by a barbecue brunch bash at 11 a.m.

St. Nicholas opened its doors in late 2002. Its regular programs include KidZone Sunday School program for school-aged children, BabyZone for infants and The EDGE for teenagers.
