Man killed when car strikes utility pole

Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old Schofield Barracks man was killed after his car veered off the road and struck a utility pole on Kunia Road early this morning, Honolulu Police said.

No one else was in the vehicle.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was not wearing a seat belt and police said that speed was a "probable factor" and alcohol was a "possible factor."

The 1991 Chevy four-door sedan was traveling south on Kunia Road shortly after 2 a.m. when the car veered off to the west-most shoulder and hit a utility pole. The car rolled over, ejecting the driver and then crushing him, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The wreck occurred during cloudy weather on a wet roadway.
