Waimanalo man killed in one-car wreck

Advertiser Staff

A 54-year-old Waimanalo man was killed last night when the car he was driving failed to negotiate a curve on Hihimanu Street and slammed into a wooden utility pole about 10:50 p.m.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services, said the lone occupant of the car was declared dead at the scene about 11:20 p.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said speeding appeared to be a factor in the case.

The traffic death toll on O'ahu now stands at 69 so far this year compared to 58 during the same period last year.
