Moped rider killed in Kona

HILO, Hawaii — A moped rider died today after hitting a parked vehicle in Kona.Police said Scott Fienup, 47, was driving a Honda moped east on Huli Koa Street in the Kohana Iki Industrial area when he struck the back of an unoccupied 2005 Dodge pickup truck at about 8:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. at Kona Community Hospital.
Fienup's death is the 28th traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year compared with 29 a year ago.
