UH medical school gets new interim dean

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i's John A. Burns School of Medicine has a new interim dean.

Gary Ostrander, the UH-Manoa vice chancellor for research, began work this week at the medical school in Kaka'ako.

He replaces former interim dean Sam Shomaker, who accepted an appointment with the University of Texas.

A search for a permanent dean is under way, said Gregg Takayama, spokesman for the UH medical school.

Ostrander will continue to serve as vice chancellor for research.
