Rita, 14, won more than $1,300 in prize money and a championship trophy saddle made by Billy Cook.

Noelle Carroll, also of Hale'iwa, won the reserve champion silver buckle and Nahe Nobriga, of the Big Island, placed third in the all-around standings.

The rodeo, which ran from 9 in the morning to 9 at night, drew 112 competitors and had nearly 400 runs throughout the day.

It was sponsored by the Hawai'i Women's Rodeo Association.

The highlight of the day was a special exhibition of mixed barrel racing. This first-time event at the All-Girls Rodeo drew 38 teams (one male and one female per team), and had $1,000 in added prize money. Rita, teamed with her father, Robert, to win the event.

UH WELCOMES HOUSTON

University of Hawai'i outside hitter Jamie Houston will return to practice today after serving a one-match suspension for violating team policy, according to Pakalani Bello of the UH sports information department.

Without Houston, the No. 15 Rainbow Wahine swept visiting Fresno State in their Western Athletic Conference opener Saturday night.

Houston, a sophomore from Huntsville, Ala., leads the team with 5.15 kills per game. She had started the previous 10 matches for Hawai'i (7-4).

She will make the upcoming road trip to Fresno State (Sept. 29) and San Jose State (Sept. 30).

Meanwhile, Hawai'i remained 15th in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll announced yesterday.
