  • "The Guardian": Ashton Kutcher plays Jake Fischer, a teenage swimming star who has turned down Ivy League scholarships because he wants to join the Coast Guard to save lives. Stephane (Gael Garcia Bernal), a shy would-be graphic artist, sleeps in a child's bed in a room overflowing with toys and inventions, and develops a fitful crush on his across-the-hall neighbor, Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg).
