A second Marine from Kane`ohe Bay has been killed in Iraq just weeks into a new deployment.

The Pentagon said Lance Cpl. James Chamroeun, 20, of Union City, Ga., died on Thursday of wounds received while conducting combat operations in western Anbar province.

Chamroeun, a radio operator, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. He joined the Marines in July of 2004 and reported to Hawai'i in February of 2005.

He had deployed to Afghanistan with the same battalion from May 2005 to January of this year.

Pfc. Christopher Riviere, 21, was killed in Iraq on Tuesday. His death was the first for the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines.

Riviere, a rifleman from Cooper City, Fla., also died from wounds received during combat operations the Pentagon said. He was part of a security detail when he was struck by small-arms fire.

Nearly 1,000 Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment deployed to Iraq to replace another Hawai`i-based unit, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.

Fourteen Marines with the unit were killed since March.
