Two women struck in crosswalk

Advertiser Staff

A 69-year-old woman was critically injured last night at around 8:15 p.m. when she and another woman were struck by a car at a North Nimitz Highway crosswalk, 21 feet west of Ahua Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The two pedestrians were walking north inside the marked Nimitz crosswalk, moving with the signal to cross, when an eastbound blue 2000 four-door Ford driven by a 21-year-old man ran a red light and struck the pair, police said witnesses told them.

The older woman was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, and the younger woman, age 40, was also taken to Queens with minor injuries. Police said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to have been a factor in the accident.
