1968: “Hawaii Five-0” debuts in the Islands, four days after the new CBS show makes its Mainland debut.

1977: One hundred people flee as a mighty river of lava from Kïlauea Volcano’s east rift zone crosses the Kapoho-Kalapana Highway, climaxing a five-mile drive to the sea.

2003: Gary Rodrigues, former head of the United Public Workers union, is sentenced to five years and four months in federal prison on mail fraud, money laundering, embezzlement and kickback convictions. He remains free on appeal.
