Another frozen night atop Mauna Kea

Advertiser Staff

It was a bitterly cold night at the University of Hawai'i's 88-inch telescope atop Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

Just after 2 a.m. today, the temperature at the telescope was reported at 23 degrees — nippy by any standards.

But the wind was blowing at 65 mph.

That made for a wind chill of close to 0 degrees.
