Richelle Nakata named Cherry Blossom Festival queen

Punahou graduate Richelle Nakata was named the 55th Cherry Blossom Festival queen last night at the annual Festival Ball at the Sheraton Waikiki.

She was also named Miss Congeniality.

Nakata graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in nutritional biochemistry in 2003 and the University of the Pacific with a doctorate in pharmacy in 2006.

Melissa Fujimoto, a 2003 graduate of Kaiser High, was named first princess. Tiffanie Luke, Julie Yoshioka and Christin Sumida were named princesses, in no particular order.

Melody Yoshimura earned the title of Miss Popularity.
