The man who died in a motorcycle accident last night on Hale'iwa Road was identified by the Medical Examiner's Office today as Valaile Fuiava Jr., 55, of Waialua.

Fuiava was killed about 10:30 p.m. after his 2006 motorcycle was rear-ended by a speeding sedan and he was dragged about 500 feet along Hale'iwa Road, police said.

He was thrown off his motorcycle near Smiley Place and dragged underneath the 1992 sedan driven by a 26-year-old woman from Kapolei, police said. The woman's car eventually ran into a roadside barrier and overturned, police said.

Fuiava suffered massive injuries and died at the scene.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

A motorcycle helmet was found near the scene, but it was unclear whether the victim was wearing it at the time of the collision, police said.

It also was unknown if alcohol or drugs was a factor. Police said the sedan was speeding when it hit the motorcycle.

Fuiava was the 25th traffic fatality on O'ahu this year, compared with 23 at this time in 2006.
