Tibetan Thangka-based art series at Chinatown gallery

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Urban Honolulu Writer

Artist Dhyana Zagri will be painting live at the Chinatown Boardroom as part of the First Friday festivities this week in Chinatown.

An opening reception for her will be held from 5 to 8 this evening at the gallery at 1160 Nu'uanu Ave.

Zagru's series at the Chinatown Boardroom gallery, titled "A Visual Journey Into Enlightenment," features original work based on Tibetan Thangka Art.

Each piece represents her interpretation of a specific Tibetan Buddhist deity, each one with its own meaning and purpose.

A portion of the sales will benefit Healing the Divide, which promotes understanding, cooperation and innovative solutions to issues that threaten the welfare and prosperity of people and communities around the world.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday.
