Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island police have arrested a 23-year-old Hilo man who allegedly shot in the direction of another man just before midnight on March 29 outside a bar in the Hilo industrial area.

No one was injured.

Another 23-year-old man told police he was threatened by the man, who allegedly brandished a firearm and then fired a single shot near him. The suspect fled on foot, police were told.

On Sunday, police received a tip and arrested the alleged shooter without incident near the Banyan Drive peninsula.

Today, detectives turned the man over to special agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, who were expected to transfer him to the federal detention center on O'ahu to face a federal weapons charge.
