WAIMEA
Taggers mar lava rock wall

Advertiser Staff

Vandals have left graffiti on the makai lava rock wall facing Waimea Beach near the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, scarring the natural feature with brightly colored paint.

About 30 to 40 feet of wall near the stairs to the beach is affected and visible from the lookout on the opposite side of the bay.

Most graffiti in that Pupukea/Waimea Bay area is painted over soon after it appears.

However, the rock wall was hit last week, and residents wonder how difficult it will be to clean the wall's porous surface.

A report was filed on the crime, and anyone who might have seen the taggers is asked to call the police.
