Elevator inspections

State law requires that every elevator in the state must be inspected once a year by certified personnel from the state’s Boiler and Elevator Inspections Branch in the Labor Department. More stringent safety examinations must be conducted by state inspectors every three to five years. According to this data compiled by the Labor Department, some 2,100 elevators were overdue for annual state inspections as of March 22, 2007. Explanations for terms: Inspection Due Date is the deadline for the state’s annual inspection; Annual Reinspection Due Date is the deadline for completion of the overdue annual inspection; Safety Test Due Date is the deadline for the state’s safety test (a more extensive examination conducted every 3-5 years).
