State campaign urges 30 minutes of daily walking

Advertiser Staff

A 10-week public education campaign called "Step It Up Hawai'i" will encourage residents to walk 30 minutes or more at least five days a week.

Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona and state Health Director Chiyome Fukino kicked off the radio and television campaign today, which includes ads featuring a female office worker who goes on a "pau hana" walk with another woman. Another ad features a man who gets out of his lounge chair, turns off his television and sets out on a walk instead.

The campaign is part of the Health Department's campaign called Start.Living.Healthy.

"No matter how busy we are, everyone can lead a healthy lifestyle one step at a time," said Aiona, whose daily exercise routine includes walking up the stairs to his fifth floor office at the State Capitol.
