Worker injured at electric substation

A man was injured today while doing switching work at Hawaiian Electric Co.'s Archer substation and the accident caused an outage that is affecting 5,000 customers in the area around Ward Avenue.

HECO spokeswoman Sharon Higa said the injured person was alert and talking. The 48-year-old was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, said EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The outage was reported at 4:45 p.m. and is affecting Ward Avenue and areas in Kewalo and Kaka'ako.
