Aikahi holding Military Appreciation Day

Students at Aikahi Elementary School in Kailua are holding a military appreciation and awareness day today.More than 500 students will tie yellow ribbons on the school fence to show support for the troops and a color guard from the 1st Battalion 12th Marines will lead the student body in the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem during a special school assembly.
Gunnery Sergeant Louis Simmons will be the guest speaker. Students with deployed family members will tie large personalized ribbons onto trees around campus. They will take the bows home at the end of the school year.
