Longs Drug Stores reports higher March earnings

Longs Drug Stores Corp., the largest operator of drug stores in Hawai'i, said March same-store sales rose 2.9 percent compared with a year earlier, helped by a gain in pharmacy sales.The Walnut Creek, Calif.-based company reported total March retail drug store sales from continuing operations of $452.7 million.
That compared to sales of $431.5 million in the similar period a year earlier. The results exclude 23 stores the company plans to close in Colorado, Washington and Oregon.
