Former Kamehameha Schools official to join OHA board

Advertiser Staff

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustees this morning voted 8-0 to add Robert K. Lindsey Jr., former Kamehameha Schools land director and Hawai'i Island land assets director, to the board.

Lindsey will fill a vacancy left by OHA Hawai'i Island trustee Linda Dela Cruz, 77, who died March 15 at her Pana'ewa home. Her term was to end in November 2008.

Lindsey, who resides in Waimea, Hawai'i, is also a former park ranger with Pu'u Kohola National Historic Site and has served as a social worker with the Family Court of the Third Circuit, State of Hawai'i.

"Today's unanimous board action is the culmination of a process agreed to a week ago by our trustees," OHA Chairperson Haunani Apoliona said in a news release.

"This expeditious selection process reflects the commitment of the board to move forward honoring the memory of our colleague, trustee Dela Cruz, and also reflects the maturity of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs."

The board had 60 days to select a replacement trustee requiring a two-thirds majority vote.

Lindsey's term will start April 16, pending verification of all legal requirements of the office. Lindsey will then serve as OHA trustee, Hawai'i Island, for the remainder of trustee Dela Cruz's term. The only requirements for her successor are that the person be a Hawai'i County resident who is a registered voter and not currently serving a prison sentence for a felony.
