Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will dedicate the following four new works of public art in a ceremony set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Veterans' Memorial Aquatic Center at the Central O'ahu Regional Park:

  • "Olapa Wai — In the Style of Water," by Mark Brown. A mural montage of figures engaging in various water sports such as diving, swimming, surfing and canoe paddling and is located in the main building of the aquatic center.

  • "Sea Sky Forever," by John Wisnosky. A mural depiction of divers, swimmers, surfers, windsurfers and sea life in an airy light-filled setting. It is located in the main building of the aquatic center.

  • "Big Pool," by Mari Sakamoto. A painting of people having fun in a big swimming pool. This work is located in the dining area of the aquatic center.

  • A group of three sculptures titled "The Spectators," by Jodi Endicott. The sculptures are a representation of people swimming and will be located near the aquatic center pool.

"It is a privilege to welcome new artwork that personifies the quintessential nature of the aquatic center," Hannemann said in a news release issued today. "These new works enhance the quality of the aquatic center and will surely be enjoyed by all who use and visit it."

The Veterans' Memorial Aquatic Center is a world-class facility that includes a 50-meter pool with electronic touch pads and a diving well with 1- and 3-meter boards. The center opened in 2003 as part of the Central O'ahu Regional Park complex.
