VOLCANO
Forest event help sought

Advertiser Staff

Volunteer crews are needed for a preservation workday event set for April 15 in the rainforest area at Volcano Art Center's Niaulani campus in Volcano Village.

Botanist Tim Tunison will begin the workday at 9 a.m. at the center at Kalanikoa and Old Volcano roads with a discussion of the plants in Niaulani's rainforest and planned projects for the area.

The old-growth rainforest area is dominated by large-diameter 'ohi'a trees, including some at least 65 feet tall. Many species of native plants populate the forest, including the rare meu tree fern.

Participants may register to take part in the event at programs@volcanoartcenter.org or call 808-967-8222.
