Alo sisters win gold in wrestling

Honolulu's Teniya and Teshya Alo struck gold in the Elementary Division at last weekend's 10th Annual U.S. Girls Wrestling Association National Championships at Livonia Churchill High School in Livonia, Mich.
Teniya Alo won her title in the 48.5-pound division and Teshya got hers at 59.8 pounds.
Hau'ula's Cianah Hee fared best in the High School Division, reaching the 118-pound final before falling to Oklahoma's Joey Miller.
Danica Auna (Hau'ula) took third at 122 pounds. Kailua's Monique Dilliner (144 pounds) and Honolulu's Olivia Fatongia (165-up) earned fourths.
Stephanie Geltmacher (Kane'ohe) got fifth at 134 pounds. Carla Watase (Honolulu) and Amanda Soliai (Lai'e) were seventh in their weight classes.

ABUBO ADVANCES IN AUSTRALIAN WATERS
Megan Abubo of Waialua advanced to the third round of the Rip Curl Women's Pro surfing contest yesterday at Bells Beach, Australia.
Abubo advanced through her first-round heat, and received a bye in the second round. Her third-round heat was postponed because opponent Amee Donohoe of Australia was feeling ill and was admitted to a hospital.
Abubo is the only Hawai'i surfer remaining in the contest. Kaua'i's Rochelle Ballard was eliminated in the second round, and Wai'anae's Melanie Bartels was eliminated in the third round.
In the Rip Curl Pro men's contest, Hawai'i surfers Andy Irons, Bruce Irons and Pancho Sullivan won their respective first-round heats to advance directly to the third round.
One other Hawai'i surfer — Fred Patacchia Jr. — placed second in his first-round heat and will have to compete in the second round.
The Rip Curl Pro is the second stop on the 2007 World Championship Tour.
