Motorcyclist dead after Moanalua Freeway collision

Advertiser Staff

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at Queen's hospital after being struck by a sedan on Moanalua Freeway under the Fort Shafter overpass, police said.

The two right westbound lanes and shoulder lane of Moanalua Freeway were closed to traffic just after 4 p.m. following the wreck, according to police dispatchers.

Lt. Robert Chinen of the Kalihi station said there is conflicting information about who collided with whom, but it appears the sedan was attempting to merge onto the freeway and collided with the motorcycle.

A man in his late 30s or early 40s on the motorcycle was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, said emergency medical services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital, Chinen said.
