18th-ranked UH shuts out New Mexico St. in softball

Tanisha Milca hit a two-run home run and Kate Robinson pitched a four-hit shutout to lead No. 18 Hawai'i to a 6-0 victory over New Mexico State today in a Western Athletic Conference softball game at Las Cruces, N.M.

Hawai'i is 38-8 overall and 9-1 in the WAC. NMSU is 22-18 and 4-3.

Robinson, a junior from Kailua, struck out two and walked none in a complete-game performance.

Milica and Brandi Peiler each went 2 for 3 and Tyleen Tausaga 2 for 4 for the Rainbow Wahine.

Kaulana Gould reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a double by Tausaga to give UH a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

In the third, Kathryn Grimes singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Traci Yoshikawa. Milca, a sophomore from Kailua, then homered to right field for a 3-0 lead.

UH scored three runs in the seventh, including on a single by Gould, a sacrifice fly by Robinson and a single by Peiler.

UH moved up three spots from No. 21 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today Top 25, released on Wednesday.
