WAIMANALO
Electromagnet will sift dump

Advertiser Staff

Waste Management of Hawaii will demonstrate a new metal recycling pilot program at the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill today at 10 a.m. using a large electromagnet that will remove metals from the landfill.

The metals will be recycled at Campbell Industrial Park to lessen the amount of recyclable materials being put into the landfill.

This initiative is in conjunction with the city's efforts to promote sustainability for O'ahu residents.

The program will run from April to the end of June 2007, and at the end of the 60-day pilot, Waste Management will evaluate the program for its feasibility and value.
