Sacramento St. tops UH, 8-5, to avoid baseball sweep

Tim Wheeler and David Flores combined for six hits and seven RBIs to help Sacramento State beat Hawai'i, 8-5, today to avoid a Western Athletic Conference series sweep at Hornet Field in Sacramento, Calif.

The Hornets (10-22 overall, 5-7) snapped a seven-game losing streak; the Rainbows (24-12, 5-4) had a modest three-game win streak stopped.

Wheeler batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Flores was 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Hornets.

Mick Joyce (2-3) went seven-plus innings, allow three runs, six hits and two walks with one strikeout. Cyrus Sarraf gave up two runs in the final two innings for Sacramento State.

Hawai'i starter Joshua Schneider (3-2) lasted only four innings, giving up four runs, seven hits and one walk.

Kris Sanchez hit his team-leading seventh home run, a two-run shot to right, in a three-run UH eighth.
