Advertiser Staff

Kate Robinson hit a grand slam in top of the seventh inning to lift No. 18 Hawai'i to a 6-5 victory over New Mexico State and a sweep of a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader today at Las Cruces, N.M.

The Rainbow Wahine won the first game, 7-3.

Hawai'i, which won its seventh in a row, is 40-8 overall and 11-1 in the WAC. NMSU is 22-20 and 4-5.

With one out in the seventh, Clare Warwick, Kaulana Gould and Tyleen Tausaga hit consecutive singles to fill the bases. Robinson then homered to left field to give UH a 6-4 lead. It was Robinson's team-leading 15th home run of the season and UH's 64th.

New Mexico State scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on Stacey Lien's RBI single, but Robinson, who replaced winning pitcher Jessica Morton, got Ashley Roszkos to ground into a double play to end the game.

Tausaga hit a solo shot in the sixth, her 12th of the season. She also hit a three-run blast in the first game.
