Honolulu police have reopened Farrington Highway at Palehua Road between Kahi Mohala and the Kapolei Golf Course in 'Ewa after a fatal car accident that occurred late last night.

Police reopened Farrington at 2:28 a.m. today.

The male driver crashed into an electric pole at around 10:30 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

The car caught fire and the unidentified driver was trapped inside, Cheplic said.

"He was burned beyond recognition," Cheplic said. The driver was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m.

The man's car was also so badly burned that it also could not be immediately identified, Cheplic said.
