Ching, Dynamo open MLS season today against L.A.

Advertiser Staff

The Houston Dynamo, the defending Major League Soccer Cup champions, open a new season today against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

Houston features Hale'iwa's Brian Ching, a forward who was named the MLS Cup Most Valuable Player last year. In the championship game against New England, Ching scored the tying goal in the 114th minute — less than one minute after the Revolution had taken a 1-0 lead — and scored the winning penalty kick in a 4-3 shootout.

Ching, a 28-year-old Kamehameha Schools alum, is in his fifth MLS season.

Today's game is scheduled to be televised in Hawai'i on Fox Sports Net West (Oceanic 20, Digital 226) at 1 p.m.
