The first false alarm, at the Marine Surf Waikiki on Seaside Avenue, occurred just before 3 a.m. and sent hotel guests to the street as firefighters inspected the hotel and found no sign of fire. The false alarm sounded on several floors.

About an hour later, firefighters responded to a false alarm at the Ohana Waikiki Malia, but no fire was reported.
