Swell keeps surf high along north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

Surf was expected to reach 26 feet on northern shores and 20 feet on western shores early this morning. A high-surf warning was in effect until 4 a.m. for the north and west shores of O'ahu, Kaua'i, Ni'ihau and Moloka'i, and for the northern shores of Maui and the Big Island.

A National Weather Service forecaster said a large northwest swell is moving through the Islands.

Today's surf forecast calls for decreasing surf, with wave heights reaching 14 feet to 18 feet along northern shores and 10 feet to 14 feet along west shores.

Surf along east-facing shores will be 3 feet to 5 feet and southern shores will see surf 1 foot to 3 feet.

A new northwest swell will be arriving Wednesday and will produce surf near the high-surf advisory threshold along north-facing shores, the National Weather Service said. A moderate south-southeast swell is expected to arrive tomorrow.
