Police managed contraflow lane traffic between 4 and 8:30 this morning. The stretch of road will now be shut until 3 p.m. for debris clearing and repairs.

The stretch of Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay that was struck by a rockslide early Saturday morning opened to contraflowed traffic between 4 and 8:30 this morning.

It is now shut for for rock removal and repair work.

The area will open again for contraflowed traffic from 3 to 7 p.m.

Contraflowed traffic moved smoothly this morning, said state Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa. Starting Wednesday, he said, officials hope to keep one lane open 24 hours a day.
