Man charged in meth seizure

Man charged in meth seizure

Prosecutors charged a 45-year-old Crestview man after police seized 2 1/2 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale and two glass smoking pipes in a warrant search of his car.

Leonard Denichi Hironaka Jr. of a Lumiiki Street address is charged with first-degree meth trafficking and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Hironaka, who has 19 prior convictions according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, appeared at District Court today and has a preliminary hearing scheduled at District Court Thursday.

Hironaka was arrested for driving without a license at 1:15 a.m. Sunday following a traffic stop at Lehiwa Street and Meheula Parkway in Mililani Mauka. The arresting officer observed two glass pipes and a digital scale in plain view inside the car.

While at the Wahiawa police station, police also booked Hironaka for an outstanding warrant and parole vioilation before obtaining the warrant to search his car.

Two charged with drug offenses

Two felons who have a combined total of 29 prior convictions were charged today with multiple drug offenses and being in possession of a deadly weapon.

Shane Ray Thomas, 39, of an Ala Kapua address in Salt Lake and Christopher S.K. Akau, 34, of 22nd Avenue in Kaimuki are charged with two counts each of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and also possessing drug paraphernalia, and possession of a collapsible baton, and being felons in possession of a deadly weapon.

Thomas, who has 24 prior convictions, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail while Akau's bail is $15,000.

The men allegedly drove off as police converged on a South Beretania Street parking lot early Monday morning to investigate a suspicious activity complaint. Police stopped the vehicle Akau and Thomas were in at Makiki and Kinau streets at 3:10 a.m.

Police say man drove car at boy

A 43-year-old Village Park man arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly trying to run over a teenager in Pearl City was still in police custody tonight.

The man is the father of a youth who was reportedly involved in an after-school fight with another boy, 15, at 2:45 p.m. Monday. The man went to the scene of the fight after it was over and allegedly drove his car at the boy.

No injuries were reported.

The man arrested has a criminal record with 24 prior convictions. He turned himself into police at the Pearl City station Monday at 8:20 p.m.

Police arrest robbery 'victim'

In a bizarre victim-turned-suspect case, a 31-year-old man is facing charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle stemming from an incident Monday night on Palm Street in Wahiawa.

The man arrested started out as the purported victim as a 22-year-old man allegedly robbed him of a gold chain and fled in a van. The alleged robbery victim later spotted the van and allegedly took a baseball bat from it. He then saw the 22-year-old man and chased him with a machete before witnesses intervened.

Fire damages Hawai'i Kai house

A fire today damaged a single-family home at 6813 Niumalu Loop in Hawai'i Kai.

Four fire companies responded to the 2:39 p.m. alarm and reported the fire under control at 2:51 p.m. No injuries were reported.

HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said no one was at home when the fire started in the kitchen area.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
