Termite terminator named outstanding UH alumnus

Nan-Yao Su, the "father" of termite baiting, will be honored by the University of Hawai'i's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources as its 2007 Outstanding Alumnus.A native of Taiwan, Su began studying subterranean termites as a graduate student at the University of Hawai'i. After receiving his doctorate in 1982, his groundbreaking research led to the development of what became the Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System, the first termite baiting system.
Manufactured by Dow AgroSciences, the Sentricon System has protected more than 2 million structures, and is the only termite control product to receive the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award, one of the U.S. government's top environmental honors. Currently Su is a professor of entomology at the University of Florida.
Su will be honored in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony Thursday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.
